A little backstory:

clubhouse was founded by Paul Davison and Rohan Seth. you’d be surprised to know that clubhouse was initially named as ‘talkshow’ in 2019. it was a designed podcast later on named as clubhouse. however, the app hyped up during the COVID 19 pandemic. and more after notable celebrities like Mark Zuckerberg, Oprah, drake, and Elon Musk made appearances. clubhouse made a rapid growth of 8.1 million downloads as of February 2021.

and with the clubhouse android releasing in may 2021 making a million downloads in just 2 weeks resulting in clubhouse being one of the fastest-growing social media apps of 2021.

WHAT IS CLUBHOUSE?

clubhouse is a trendy social media app that has access only through clubhouse invites. it is a live podcasting app, an audio chat social networking. both IOS and Andriod users can download this application.

the clubhouse features virtual rooms where conversations take place where the only way to communicate is via audio. these rooms are virtual conference rooms where the room is divided between speakers and the audience. the speaker could be limited by one or more. the audience are the people who’ll just listen in to content being spoken in the room. if one of the audience wants to talk they could, by notifying the speaker. each room has a topic and the speaker/speakers talk and discuss that topic. you could either create a room or simply join an existing one and even set events with clubhouse. the only way to communicate is via audio.

HOW TO USE CLUBHOUSE:

  1. firstly you need to be invited by a clubhouse user through a text message which has a link , per member gets 5 invites only.
  2. once you click on that link and download clubhouse, you fill in your details to create your profile such as name, username, mail, etc . to set your profile.
  3. you’ll land on the home page which consists of rooms, each room will be made by the selected category of the mediator who has chosen a topic to talk about.
  4. you can click on any rooms which you’re interested in and begin to listen in,

5. if you have something to add or share you could notify the mediator by just clicking on the hand icon button on the bottom right-hand side. and you get shifted from the audience section to the speakers’ section. if you’re done talking and you have nothing more to add or if you just wanna let the other person talk. you could mute yourself by clicking on the mic icon on the bottom right of the screen.

6. you could listen in or if the topic of the conversation doesn’t interest you, you could leave the group by clicking on the button ‘leave silently’ on the bottom left of the page as shown below

if none of the topics interest you shown in the dashboard you can start your own room. you could do so, by clicking the option ‘start a room’. and then add a topic and select the type of room among the 3 categories. 1) open — that is open to everyone 2) social — that is to start a room with people you follow 3) closed — that is to start a room with people you choose. and then click on “let’s go” to begin the conference

SET EVENTS with clubhouse:

there will be events that will be scheduled by other people, content creators, etc that you could attend, and you can view the upcoming events by clicking on the calendar icon.(the blue arrow ,refer image 1 )

You can also set events with clubhouse by following these steps :

  1. Click on the calendar icon, you’ll land on the page showing all the upcoming events, on the upper right corner you’ll find another calendar icon with a plus sign as shown in the image. (circled in red ,refer image 2)

2. once you click on that you’ll land on a page where you fill in all the details such as the name of the event, add co-host or guests, date, time, and description of the event. once all of it is filled, click on publish to confirm and appear on the guest’s or other’s upcoming event’s page. (circled in green, refer image 2)

IN CONCLUSION:

It is almost like attending a conference or other meeting for discussion. you choose to attend a conference on the topic that interests you. listen in and add your views and share pointers by stepping out of the audience and stepping onto the stage after notifying the mediator. the thing about conferences is that you get nervous to talk in front of so many people and the best part here in clubhouse is you have the confidence to speak up. the other thing about conferences is that sometimes you want to escape it but you can’t, here you have the option to silently leave and no one would even realize. and if you heard someone say something you like you could let them know by clicking on and off the mic as an expression of applauding. there are more pros to this than cons. this application sure is worth your attention.
